Mfusi Mjonono (Chairperson)

Mfusi Mjonono is currently managing the division Production Economics, under Programme: Agricultural Economics with the Department of Agriculture, a division responsible for assisting farmers in business planning and financial matters. Mfusi is current the Vice-President of the African Farm Management Association (AFMA) and the chair of the local organising committee for AFMA9 conference to be held in Cape Town. He is also an active member of International Farm Management Association (IFMA) and has attended the last four IFMA conferences.

 

Dr. Dirk Troskie (Programme Co-ordinator)

Dr Dirk Troskie, currently Director: Business Planning and Strategy in the Department of Agriculture of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Dr Troskie’s responsibilities include providing expert counsel on agricultural-economics matters for high-level decision making, Coordinating transversal strategic planning and reporting processes for the Department, Managing and coordinating impact and outcome assessments of the Department’s activities. During his career Dr Troskie has presented 38 scientific presentations, published 27 scientific peer reviewed research papers, 66 substantial reports and published more than 800 popular articles and papers on subjects ranging from macro-economic policy to farm level issues.  

Dr Troskie has served on various scientific committees. These include the Executive Committee of the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA), convened the African Association for Agricultural Economists 2010 Organising Committee, convened the 2013 American Association of Wine Economics 2013 Organising Committee and served on the Executive Committee of the Farm Management Association of South Africa (FAMASA).

Dr Troskie is responsible for the scientific programme of the congress.

 
Mr. Shelton Mandondo (Social Events)


Shelton Kaba Mandondo is a member of AFMA Local Organising Committee and a Deputy Director in the Business Planning and Strategy Directorate of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. One of his core responsibilities is to develop and nurture a domestic and International network of leading Agriculturalists. He has organised events of different magnitude and scale. A noted example being the American Association of Wine Economists- 7th Annual Conference in South Africa in 2013.
 Bongiswa Matoti (Sponsorship - Government)

Bongiswa Matoti, is currently the Director for Agricultural Economic Services at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. She is responsible for managing the Programme: Agricultural Economic Services which provides its services through divisions such as Production Economics, Marketing and Agribusiness, Statistics, Macro and Resource Economics. Ms Matoti has served on various committees. These include the Executive Committee of the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA) and currently holds the position of Vice President within the Association. She has been part of the Organising Committee for various local and international conferences.

Prof. Phillip Nyangweso, (Sponsorship – Africa)

Prof. Philip M. Nyangweso is the president of Africa Farm Management Association, the Regional Rep for the East and Central Africa Region in the African Association of Agricultural Economists. He is the current chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Resource Management, Moi University, Kenya. He is an Associate professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Resource Management, Moi University, Kenya. He has published more than 36 articles in international refereed publications. He joined the University in March 2004 after serving in various capacities and stations in the Ministry of Agriculture. Prior to joining the University, Prof. Nyangweso worked as a Senior Agricultural Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture where he executed government advisory services on various community development projects with special focus on Agricultural Marketing and Extension. Apart from teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and graduate students, his research interests are: Agriculture and Food Policy, Agricultural Marketing, International Trade and Household Food Security, Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Modeling. Prof. Nyangweso was consulted in 2010 as an expert on Agriculture and Food Policy by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) which was in the process of formulating a Regional Agriculture and Food Policy.
 Dr. Cecilia Punt (Treasurer)

Cecilia Punt worked as an agricultural economist at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture from January 1998 until July 2010. She was the manager of the Macro-economics Division of the Agricultural Economics Programme and the project leader of the Provincial Decision-making Enabling (PROVIDE) Project, a national project to develop and apply a quantitative framework for multi-sector analysis. Since August 2010 she lecturers Introductory Econometrics, International Trade and Applied SAM Based Modeling at the Department of Agricultural Economics of the University of Stellenbosch. She acted as treasurer of the Local Organising Committees of the 2010 AEASA/AAAE conference, the 2013 AAWE conference and currently for the 2014 AFMA conference.

 Ms. Porchia Adams (Media)

Porchia Adams, is currently the Marketing & Communications Manager at Agri-Expo. She is responsible for the planning, development and execution of the Marketing and Communication strategies for Agri-Expo’s events. Ms Adams has more than 20 years’ experience in the agriculture sector and served on various committees, these include being a member of the Policy Committee on Communication and Member of Western Cape Agricultural Writer’s Association. Her portfolio on the AFMA committee is Public Relations and Media.

Ms. Nomfundo Monaren (Secretary)

Nomfundo Monaren is an Agricultural Economist at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture under Production Economics Division.

Nomfundo is the secretary of the local organising committee for the AFMA9 conference and an active member of the International Farm Management Association (IFMA).
